Once you’ve crossed Bussarakham’s heavy wooden doors, the rest of the world ceases to exist. The noise of the trams crossing porta Genova, the chatter accompanying the spritzes served on the Naviglio, it all goes away. We are in a less crowded street, now, and yet you have the distinct feeling of being in the Far East, a Far East made of slow rythms, soft lights and flavors to discover. If you choose to dine on the mezzanine floor, where the low tables are surrounded with embroidered cushions, it will be easy to fantasize, imagining you’re on a street in Phuket.
Bussarakham is very different from the other ethnic restaurants in Milan. Not just for the wonderful structure of the place and its intimate atmosphere, but also for the extreme courtesy of the members of the staff, very elegant in their Thai clothes and always available to explain to the guests the flavors of their land, advising them and also encouraging them to divide the dishes between them to try different tastes. When you enter, you are welcomed by an aperitif, accompanied by some appetizers, then they leave you alone, to enjoy some friendly chat while you choose your order.
The menu offers a wide proposal, both of meat and of fish. You absolutely have to try the pad thai, a typical dish of rice noodles that comes in three versions (with vegetables, with chicken or with shrimps) and is a true surprise for the senses. Besides the more famous dishes, the chef decided to import in Milan other, more authentic elements of Thai cuisine, like the cooking in a banana leaf, that imparts to the fish a really special aroma, the green papaya salad and many soups with coconut milk and lemongrass.
The serenity that derives from the kindness of the staff, from the light background music and the dark wooden furnitures gives something mystical to the place. It’s impossible to make a quick stop at Bussarakham. You have to take your time here. Time to be together, chat, share, taste and discover. Ideal for a romantic dinner, an evening with friends or for anyone that wants to escape from the city routine, Bussarakham will take you to a refuge, a hidden corner of East.
