Antica Trattoria della Pesa

Historic Italian restaurant operating since 1880 where to find the perfect Milanese tradition

When a foreign friend is visiting Milan there is no doubt that he wants to go out and taste some healthy Italian cuisine. And, because of the many Made in Italy dishes that have been exported, the Milanese tradition is not yet inflated, I often go for this option. When so, I always and inevitably reserve a table in one place: L’ Antica Trattoria della Pesa.

Everyone has its favourite address for the preferred ossobuco, the ad hoc stew, and the risotto all’onda… It is clear that there are alternatives. But there is one aspect of Pesa that in my opinion remains unbeatable: the environment. Wooden tables and sideboards, white tablecloths, cream tile and bricks from the 50s and a warm yellow light that heats up any room. The staff is the same as ever, you see them make every gesture as if it were already a part of them, with a naturalness and ease that instil confidence.

The scent from the kitchen of the Antica Trattoria della Pesa envelops the environment, making it even more welcoming, spreading the typical aromas of the most laborious preparations: sauces, brown funds, roasts, important stuffing. The concept is that of the old taverns, where one could go not so much to go out to dinner, but for a bite to eat before returning home. Quick service, super classic menu, which nonetheless never disappoints.

You can start with Lombard cold cuts and homemade pickles, chicory or marinated guinea fowl. Risotto alla Milanese, or “al salto”, and for the connoisseur Pasta e fagioli (pasta with beans), that will pass the spoon test. For those who can, I suggest the risotto and osso buco combo because it consoles any sadness satisfying the stomach. Rognoncino cooked in olive oil, parsley and garlic, cabbage rolls, and of course the Cotoletta alla Milanese, beef with green sauce and other specialties.

And at the end, do not miss the hot zabaglione … simply amazing! A restaurant operating since 1880 where atmosphere and cuisine blend perfectly. Here you are sure to spend a couple of hours away from commitments, trends and problems, returning home more serene and sated with goodness.

We can't. That's why every week we share the best experiences milan has to offer.

In via Savona, right in the center of one of the most fashionable and creative districts of the city, stands Trattoria Aurora, a historic Milanese address that has preserved the Liberty charm of all its years of activity.
