Open House Milano 2017

Some of Milan's most fascinating buildings open their doors to the public this weekend

This weekend will see the return of Open House Milano. Run in conjunction with Open House International, the event aims to open up the doors of some of Milan’s greatest architectural gems to the general public.

Supported by a huge team of volunteers, Open House gives you the chance to gain insider access to some of Milan’s most recognizable but hitherto private spaces. There are too many places to list, with something for everybody – whether you’re obsessed with contemporary design, or you prefer the idea of wandering through some of the many beautiful preserved historic palazzi this city has hidden away.

Open House Milano

Some of the highlights of this year’s program include behind the scenes access to the headquarters of the Corriere della Sera and the Cremlino Studio Binocle. Try something a bit more different, and go backstage at the Auditorium di Milano, or step inside the former Ansaldo plant that now houses BASE Milano, the cultural project that is an artists’ residence, co-working space and more. Take a step inside the abandoned Albergo Diurno Venezia spa, which only opens its doors a couple of days per year and discover a world from another time, or maybe see the former industrial site of the Molino Sordelli silos, a huge industrial space that has been renovated as a huge creative laboratory.

Open House Milano seeks to open up a side of Milan usually reserved for only a privileged few. Most events are free of charge, but spaces are limited. Go to Open House Milano’s website for more information – this is one event you won’t want to miss.

Let’s Twist at Babitonga Café

The Babitonga Café never ceases to amaze us. Both because it combines two of our sacred places (the bookstore and the coffeehouse), and because it has become over time a real cauldron of fun cultural initiatives that are never boring or pedantic. The location is spectacular too: a sort of crystal and steel cathedral that [...]

Via Lepanto, 20125 Milano

Between Isola and Greco, behind the Central Station, there is a historical district of Milan, Maggiolina, which includes the residential area called the Journalists' Village. A walk around here will plunge you into an atmosphere of the times gone by. For lovers of architecture, hidden gardens, squares and fifteenth-century villas, this is one of the most [...]
