Padiglione Teatri

When Expo is also Theater

I love the theater. And I love Milan because the theatrical offer for citizens is extraordinarily varied, all season, every year.

You can choose to go to Piccolo if you want to see the great Italian interpreters or foreign productions of the great prose; you can go to Libero or Martinitt if you want to see the comedies, yesterday and today ones. Want to see experimental theater? There is the CRT. Are you interested in the stars of fiction and cinema? The Manzoni is the place for you, the Nuovo needless to say. Do you enjoy musicals? The Nazionale offers you the best there is in Italy. Not to mention the myriad of off theaters that dot the city and its suburbs. So, if you want to dream, let entertain yourself or just spend a different evening. Milan remains an excellence in the boot for the live show: here comes almost everything.

This is why I have often wondered why Expo commissioned an evening show at a foreign company – Cirque du Soleil – and not to our national performers and acrobats. Certainly the importance of the event Expo requires the use of forces and energy that only a reality with a European and multicultural breath as the Cirque can offers: but where are our theaters?

The answer is in the Padiglione Teatri, from July 13th and throughout the month, in the city. Yes, because the Padiglione Teatri is the main initiative for the live show that the city offers in this long international summer: it is in fact a theatrical marathon that will rely on three multiplexes (the Piccolo, the Elfo Puccini and Franco Parenti), during which all the Milanese theatrical reality will propose the best production, at a discounted price. A total of 58 shows will be distributed on 18 stages over a period of twenty days. The price of each night is 5 or 10€, roughly as an aperitif.

It would be impossible to mention them all, equally necessary to name at least three: Elfo Puccini for N.E.R.D.S.SYMPTOMS by Bruno Fornasari, imprinted on the black humor comedy set during a wedding anniversary; the Franco Parenti for a classic like Shakespeare’s Othello staged by Teatro de Gli Incamminati; at the Piccolo I would lose myself in TRAMEDAUTORE, festival organized by Outis which this year offers authors and performers from the regional roots of our country.
