Exit – Gastronomia Urbana has quietly opened, without announcements, celebrations or special inaugurations in the first few days of January 2018. We are in Piazza Erculea, a hidden and isolated square in the center of Milan, a few steps from the Duomo and from the city’s frenzy. The intuition stems from the already well tested, as well as Michelin-starred, team of Via Meda’s boys, the founders of Contraste, included in the Michelin Guide 2018.
Matias Perdomo, Simon Press and Thomas Piras have thus decided to combine their experience of high catering with that of a refreshment point, more accessible and usable at all times, very well known to the Milanese: the kiosk, and in this case, a gourmet version. At Exit you’ll find a contemporary kitchen, immediate, with democratic prices and dishes made with the best raw ingredients. This is a place where you can drink and eat well at all hours – like in a real European metropolis.
Whether you are one of the businessmen or women operating in the downtown area, or simply curious fans of everything that happens at the culinary level in our city, Exit will amaze you both for the gastronomic offer of the highest quality, and for the polite and relaxed service. You can enjoy the food in various ways and if in a starred restaurant not everyone can or want to go, the idea of approaching a kiosk to live a major gastronomic experience is certainly easier and feasible even for the wallet.
Exit works for this: for its democracy, but also and above all for its strategic position. The square, so small and hidden, makes one think of the little squares of the village around which the life of the past was happening and flowing. As once men and women gathered in the squares, perhaps at the Central Bar for a restorative break from the inexorable flow of hours and commitments, today at Exit we can think that the same thing happens.
The kiosk is in fact open from Monday to Friday, during hectic weekdays, when you need an exit from your nonstop routine. Inside, you will be greeted by the smile of the staff, from eight in the morning to midnight without interruption. For a sweet or savory breakfast, a lunch or a long, evening aperitif, every moment will be the right one to try any of the dishes on the menu, among which you will find the inevitable (and divine in its simplicity) Matera bread with salted butter and Cantabrian anchovies, eggs à-la-Exit, Jamon Iberico and oysters, caviar, gazpacho, octopus and, for the most brave, dishes with snails, besides various meat dishes. The wine list contains a hundred proposals selected by Thomas Piras.
The interior decoration is minimal, the kitchen is open and, when looking out from the large windows, it really does not seem to be in the “gray Milan”. The environment is bright, the mise-en-place of thirty simple and elegant, with a block of Ceppo di Grè (an ornamental stone with which most of the Milanese palaces were built) used as a backrest. It’s really true that it’s always the details that make the difference.
So, what are you waiting for? Exit – Gastronomia Urbana is the most flawless exit way in town. Go and try it!
