I don’t know about you but I always walk with my nose in the air. Milan offers lots of cues and I adore looking at the plants that pop out of balconies and rooftops of the city.
Sometimes I lose myself imagining, or better, dreaming of what could be behind those plants and marvelous terraces with Jacuzzi and barbecues. Where you could throw mega parties on super-attics with a breathtaking view of Milan.
Well, apparently I wasn’t the only one to think so, and over the past few years cocktail bars and restaurants begun to open up at dizzying speed. It is not like having your own personal super-attic but they are more than valid substitutes. I therefore listed Milan’s top 5 fascinating rooftops with the best views of the city:
“Air, green and the attraction of those who know they’ve got it all but are used to keeping it under wraps: Ceresio 7. The city’s skyline, that gradually defines itself with the seasons, is laid out before you at 360 degrees. (…) We’re talking about area Monumentale and the place it’s at the top of the charts with those “in the know”. (…) The project, an idea of the genius canadian stylists Dean and Dan Caten – Dsquared 2 – has a basic common theme: create a unique space, where you’ll feel good and want to hang out. What better spot that the rooftop of the historic Enel building, already seat of the renowned fashion brand?”
Piazza Duca D’Aosta, 9
Feel like you’re in Manhattan, even when your feet are firmly planted in the Milanese capital. Located on the seventh floor of the Excelsior Hotel Gallia, Terrazza Gallia is one of the most elegant in the city, which will spoil you with great food and drinks at any time of day, from noon until night. With a view of majestic Centrale Station and the new Porta Nuova architecture, their motto is: “drink with a view, dine in style.” Take advantage of this place for a business lunch or dinner with a view. The talented chefs Vincenzo and Antonio Lebano, with the help of the Michelin-starred Cerea company, will delight you with tasty dishes, bringing modern recipes and flavors from Campania, their place of origin, to the table.
“…Turning this beautiful, majestic spot into the ideal place for an aperitif is a given if with the cocktails you serve delicious appetizers, as well. The hostess at Terrazza Aperol busily refills the tables handing out cones of crispy chips. With your drink you get a plate of mini sandwiches, bruschettas, olives, savory muffins and anything else you can think of. Is the second round brought on by gluttony or thirst? It’s a toss up.Anyway, if you’ve got a romantic evening in mind, give them a buzz first so you get the best spot. You don’t want to miss out on a chance at scoring these points (without damaging to your wallet, by the way)! At the first hint of spring they have people coming out of the wood works! Just keep that in mind. If you want to take it up a notch, save some space for dinner at Giacomo (Arengario). Chapeau!”
“Seen from above the Indro Montanelli Public Gardens color the map of the Milanese center with that green touch so precious to the busy, insatiable inhabitants of the Lombard capitol: overlooking this beautiful park you can easily recognize La Terrazza di via Palestro. (…) Within the Swiss Center, the popular Terrazza Palestro is open for lunch, aperitif, dinner and events: down to the finest detail it offers anyone looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of city life a real treat. Thanks to the genial covering overhead, rain or shine you’ll be sure to find a safe haven from whatever the weather dishes out. The breathtaking view is one of the most fascinating in the city and the menu is just as awesome. The ingredients are typically Italian and month by month they follow the seasons mirroring the colors that paint the park below.”
“On the top floor of the very central Brian&Barry Building, in the heart of Milan’s drinking scene, is one of the coolest locations inaugurated in Milan over the last few months. It’s Terrazza 12, a lounge restaurant whose most captivating feature is the breathtaking view of the Milanese historical center. (…) From up there it seems as if the Madonnina maliciously winks at you inviting you to stay for another drink. And what a drink it is! (…) Terrazza 12 has a magnetic allure, which naturally embraces anyone who decides to be a part of it. An almost enchanted place, where time seems to have stopped, but definitely not the desire to have fun!
