This weekend, the Milanese will be able to become tourists in their own city and rediscover it. Open House Milano 2018, the third Milanese edition of the international project aimed at rediscovering the wonders of architecture, is back. The event, which is the first annual Italian date of the Open House Wordlwide circuit, will open the doors of some buildings and private sites in Milan that are usually not accessible to the public for an immersion in the architectural, historical and stylistic stratifications of the Lombardy capital. The Open House will be held in 4 continents and 31 cities.

Open House Milano, organized this year in collaboration with the Order of Architects of Milan, offers the opportunity to admire some of the iconic buildings of Milan’s skyline, to discover the unseen soul of the city through special events, insights and guided tours held by designers, students and lovers of architecture. After the great success of the last edition, this year, on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May, it will be possible to visit over 100 sites, with free access or by booking, following your own taste or the thematic routes that illustrate the evolution of the socio-cultural evolution of the capital.

Among the new features of this year, there’s an exclusive path created by Living, a well-known magazine of interiors, design and lifestyle by Corriere della Sera. It proposes a selected itinerary among private homes and studios in Milan, a new satellite itinerary that arrives in Vigevano following a straight line that departs from Porta Ticinese and a lot of opportunities for entertainment thanks to Sofar Sound that has organized concerts in unusual locations, not designed to host music.

Alongside the opening of some of the city’s iconic buildings such as Palazzo Lombardia, the Pirelli Skyscraper and the Milano Skyscraper, the two-days event will provide itineraries for every interest and aesthetic preference: buildings of historical importance such as Palazzo Clerici, Palazzo Moriggia, Palazzo Castiglioni, the Sormani Library, sites of cultural interest, such as the Lia Rumma gallery and the Francesca Minini gallery, the historic Corriere della Sera headquarters and the Rai headquarters, built by Gio Ponti, in Corso Sempione and redeveloped historical buildings including the former Saponificio Angela Gavazzi e Figli, the Officine del Volo and the former Lagomarsino factory. There are also thematic itineraries dedicated to the recovery of outlying areas and public art, in-depth studies on sacred architecture and an itinerary of social relevance inspired by the “Through Milan. People and places transform the city” exhibit, which highlights themes such as solidarity and social inclusion.

On the website of Open House Milano, you can view the complete program of this edition and book some of the visits with limited places. On Sunday, moreover, the event coincides with the free day of museums opening and it will be possible to visit the Museo del Novecento, the GAM, Palazzo Moriggia and Palazzo Morando to know not only the collections they host, but also the architecture and the history of their offices.
