The Osservatorio by Fondazione Prada

A Christmas Present from Fondazione Prada

If family commitments force you to stay in the city over the holiday season, fear not. We still have a surprise in store for you. After you rush to buy a gift for that friend you’ve forgotten, and visited all the relatives you have to visit, here’s a gift that gives even more prestige to Milan and which will help tourists and enthusiasts see even more of the city. On December 21, the Osservatorio in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele will open to the public exhibiting photos and artwork from Fondazione Prada.

The fifth and sixth floors of the gallery will overlook the octagon, a place renowned for meeting exchange and passage in the center of Milan. The gallery spans 800 square meters and will host exhibitions, events and art installations. The space will be entirely dedicated to the analysis of new trends in the world of photography, always interconnected with other disciplines and above all an integral part of digital communication, the context in which you can explore the cultural implications of their use.

This brand new cultural center and museum opens with an interesting ‘Christmas Gift’ by Fondazione Prada -‘Give Me Yesterday‘ by Francesco Zanot. The exhibition brings together visual and photographic works of some of the most important Italian and international artists.

Osservatorio Fondazione Prada - Give Me Yesterday

Exhibition: Give Me Yesterday

One more thread to enrich the artistic and cultural tapestry of Milan, the Osservatorio is designed to evoke the history and vibrancy of Milan. With the Osservatorio, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele now blends its function with that of a museum of contemporary art. 19th Century reliefs and inlays now mix with modern art to create new forms, creating a bond seemingly distant and impossible.

Like a jigsaw puzzle, the delicate and impressive architecture of the Galleria and the Osservatorio slot together to tell a national and international history of art, adding another fragment to Milan’s already lively artistic mosaic.
