Rebetiko Taverna Greca

The Greece's beating heart at Georgios' home

A corner of Greece has arrived near Arco della Pace. It was a creation from the love that Georgios, the owner, has for his land. In Milan, he made his dream came true: Rebetiko Greek tavern. Georgios was born in Thessaly and arrived in Italy in the late ’70s, after a long experience as a restaurant owner in a Milanese place, Georgios opened Rebetiko,  the Greek tavern and a beating heart of tradition and values that boost  his love for the cuisine.

The name of the restaurant – from the Hellenic language rebetis, or rebel – is  originated from the ancient taverns that animated the suburbs of the cities, where marginalized and rebels, in fact, spent their evenings in the name of food, alcohol and freedom. This freedom is also the protagonist of the rebetika music, the soundtrack Georgios’ childhood.

A small window on the road leads to the entrance to the hall, dominated by a large, bright and colored LED, taken over by a white light chandelier that overhangs the covers. The completely exposed brick walls make the atmosphere rustic and welcomingrecalling the ancient Hellenic taverns in simple materials that are easy to manufacture. To give a touch of familiarity, there are hand-written dedications on the walls by the guests that have appreciated the conviviality and the gastronomic offer that this small family business continues to offer with its service. Don’t be surprised by the vintage photos hanging at the entrance, a vehicle for transmitting the authentic Greece atmosphere, the main theme of this whole place.
