Who said that the festivities should end after the Epiphany? The winter holidays end when you return to the office and to the daily routine, it’s true, but there’s something that never ends: the spirit of adventure and the pursuit of fun. And even if after Christmas you don’t want to give up the snowy sceneries and the winter wonderlands there is a place where you can go where charm and beauty are maintained eternally: San Martino di Castrozza.

San Martino di Castrozza is a small but radiant jewel set in the crown of the Dolomites, in Trentino. An historic ski resort since the second half of the nineteenth century, this town soon became the favorite winter destination of the aristocracy of the Habsburg empire and is still today a must for all those looking for an escape from the city.

The location is simply spectacular: a gentle valley, white in winter and green in summer, surrounds it all around and, behind it, stand the famous Pale di San Martino, a group of mountains that extends for two hundred and forty square kilometers, which is part of an even larger natural park which is also UNESCO heritage.

San Martino is famous for this unique natural scenery that shines with white snow, for the many kilometers of ski slopes and also for mountaineering and hiking. A place of truly inexhaustible wealth, perfect for a relaxing holiday (even a hit-and-run one) that will make you forget about the city and its endless stress.

WHERE TO EAT

Ristorante Malga Ces - San Martino di CastrozzaRistorante Malga Ces

If you don’t want to give up the gourmet cuisine even at high altitudes, go to Rifugio Punta Ces, a true balcony on the infinite mountain panorama of the Dolomites reachable through a beautiful path through the surrounding nature. Here, overlooking the beauty of the snowy panorama, you can enjoy a high-altitude lunch in the name of quality and comfort. The menu includes both sandwiches and regular dishes, prepared at the time that have as a common denominator the use of typical and traditional ingredients.

Another essential stop is the typical restaurant La Canisela, located near the Grand Hotel des Alpes, where in four charming rooms with a retro atmosphere, a log cabin all wood and warm colors, brings to the table the love for the local ingredients, expressed through a traditional cuisine, framing it, however, in a context of renewal and revisitation. The winning card is the wine cellar that holds the excellence of the regional offer and, of course, the atmosphere: the limited number of seats, in fact, guarantees an experience 100% voted for exclusivity, privacy and care for the customer.

A wooden farmhouse kitchen and an airy terrace are the main features of the Da Anita restaurant. A place to feel at home, welcomed by the courtesy of the staff and surrounded by an atmosphere where class and elegance reign. The management is familiar and the dishes, of course, typical. We particularly recommend the canederli, the section of the first courses and, among the desserts, the excellent strudel. Even here you should not underestimate the wine list, their cellar is well stocked, and the combinations proposed by the staff, who is very well prepared and always available and give a hand to the customers that still don’t know much about the local cuisine.

For dinner, the Malga Ces is just what you need: a beautiful chalet further down the mountainside offering all the high quality and specialization of an exclusive restaurant. The best of Trentino tradition is here reworked in the dishes, all strictly homemade and with the most genuine local ingredients. Their gem? The grilled meat and the wide selection of cheeses to combine with one of the many refined wine labels. A step that will not only restore all your energy but will also delight your taste buds.

WHERE TO STAY

Hotel Regina - San Martino di CastrozzaHotel Regina

One of the most beautiful hotels in San Martino is certainly the Hotel Regina, a manor where you can breathe the atmosphere of the fin-de-siècle aristocracy surrounded by an unforgettable scenery. A hotel that focuses on quality and specialization of the service, of course, but also on the classic alpine aesthetic with its lounge decorated with large armchairs and antique furniture with fireplaces and endless delightful corners where you can relax yourself after a morning in the snow. In addition to the beautiful rooms, divided into classic rooms, junior, grand junior suites, regular suites and top suites, with a more modern look but always in line with the style of the hotel, you will find a hundred-seat restaurant hall and a refined lounge bar where you can enjoy the aperitif of the house, sip spirits and wines while listening to live music or simply relax with your beloved ones. Do not miss a space dedicated to wellness with a beautiful indoor pool around which revolve many services and spa treatments.

The Hotel Colbricon Beauty & Relax is equally beautiful. As the previous one, it is in a central position, and is characterized by bright and rarefied atmospheres, dominated by the light tones of the wood and the white walls that seems to be one with the snow blanket that covers the panorama. The focus here is on style details, on the excellence of small things: the wood that makes up most of the furniture is entirely natural and preciously carved, its regular rooms, subdivided into Romantic and Elegance are equipped with all the comforts, while the Junior Suites possess an absolutely unique prestigious touch. The hotel has a restaurant that contains all the gastronomic delights of the region and a wellness center with saunas, relaxation areas, whirlpools and special alpine treatments with flower baths and aromatic essences massages.

Another gem is the Hotel Isolabella Wellness, whose exterior is more reminiscent of the huts that we all imagine when we think of the enchanted scenarios of the Dolomites. Inside we find a wide variety of rooms: some inspired by the world of music and equipped with their own playlists to accompany your days, others with a more artistic and international style and, in addition to regular rooms, also some Junior Suites with a warm, more traditional atmosphere, equipped with sitting areas, balconies and whirlpools. Three dining rooms, each with its own distinctive style, and a lounge bar will be the setting for your holidays. The hotel is also equipped with its own mountain chalets, reachable on foot, and a modern wellness center.

WHERE TO RELAX

Dolce Vita Design Spa & Wellness - San Martino di CastrozzaDolce Vita Design Spa & Wellness

Nothing is better to forget the bites of frost, than a heated pool entirely enclosed in a room carved into the very rock of the mountains. This is the central fulcrum of the fantastic SPA Dolomiti. The wellness trail begins in the bio-sauna, followed by aromatized showers, a Finnish sauna and a Turkish bath, and then a relaxing swim in the pool. Each of these treatments is accompanied by the use of essential oils and natural fragrances. The offer is then completed by massages and beauty treatments carried out with the same precision and effectiveness as a true wellness ritual dedicated to giving you maximum relaxation.

The hydrotherapy treatments are instead the strength of the SPA inside the Hotel Belvedere whose indoor swimming pool is equipped for counter-current swimming and equipped with geysers and warm waterfalls for cervical massages. Among the many beauty treatments offered, there are the compresses and mud baths, the sun shower and the regenerating treatments. Moreover, this SPA is family friendly, being equipped with an area dedicated to children with a dedicated mini-pool and water games.

The Dolce Vita Design SPA & Wellness is another indispensable wellness destination in San Martino. You will find it inside the Hotel Sayonara, a charming place that offers a 360° comfort experience thanks to its brightly organized structure with sections dedicated to whirlpools and swimming pool among sparkling crystal walls that will make you feel immersed in the scenery of the vertiginous peaks and snow-covered pines. In the beauty area you will find massages and saunas made unique thanks to cutting-edge technologies such as the SPA table “ZERO 1” that combines massage, emotional treatment and color therapy. There is also a corner designed specifically for herbal teas and also an exclusive Private Spa service for moments of greater recollection and intimacy.
