I am always astonished when I hear someone saying “I know where to eat some good fish in Milan” and the phrase does not end with “in the Trattoria del Pescatore”. And I incredibly find people who have never been there. Ok, I can understand that if they tried to reserve a table at the last minute foe a Friday or Saturday evening and they did not succeed…but I do not admit other excuses.
Here the furniture, the tables, the walls, the flavours in your mouth are all Sardinian. It has been in Milan since 1976, but the typical products come always and only from there. I really do not know where to start. From the raw fish house starter or the cooked one? If it is the right season, do not miss the fried alghe (seaweed): they look like green corals, soft and crunchy, in one word…delicious! Among the pasta dishes there is plenty of choice. The clams and fish eggs spaghetti is unique. The house macaroni with swordfish, belly peppers, shrimps and cherry tomatoes are divine, if available, also the spaghetti with sea urchins are sublime or, if you are looking for something classical, there are always the seafood spaghetti en papillote.
Here, if you ask for fish (of any kind) cooked their way, you will not be disappointed. With tomato, grilled, stewed, with potatoes…the choice is up to your taste. I perfectly remember when once I ordered something different than my usual…a sole. I never have seen one this big, juicy and tasty. The given bread is a tempter demon. A kind of long ciabatta, rigorously cooked in oven, fragrant, crunchy, soft and good smelling is waiting lingering on the table while you are taking your seat. Keep – in any case – a piece of it for the end of your meal.
Ok, until know we delayed. You cannot, it is really not possible, that you come here and do not try the best dish: Catalan style lobster. Cooked, cut into pieces, drowned in fresh Camone tomatoes, Tropea onions and excellent olive oil. The bread I talked about before is now needed to mop up your dish. But store again a little piece.
Before the deserts or the lemon, green apple or myrtle liquor sorbets, the house will kindly honour you with some Sardinian goat cheese. Seasoned to the right point. Soft but tasteful. Enchanting, spicy and sweet at the same time…I told you that you needed to save some bread.
Now, get to the phone and reserve a table. Then you will tell me where you can eat THE best fish in Milan.
